DESCRIPTION: The past is all around us, and unsettled beneath us. Things are buried, things are exhumed. They are brought out of the ground, recast as artifacts, then as relics. Under the bright light of hegemony, they are pieced together, imagined whole, in service to empire’s writing of history. Can place be returned to? Would returning to a place mean unturning time? Unturning the soil? Upheaving what is buried? To what end? In this class, we will experience these questions in space, and attend to their phenomena. Using guided imagery, outside texts, and attentional practices, we will explore our senses as agents of research, encounter, meaning-making and unmaking.
Open to all, especially those without dance/movement background!
LEVEL: Beginner
MASKING: Mask optional.
