Snack Break Movement Arts- BODY CONVO

Snack Break Movement Arts- BODY CONVO
from $0.00

Thursday 3/5
7-8:30PM @ & Space
1021 Hamilton Street, Floor 3

DESCRIPTION: Since Snack Break Movement Art's inception, we have aimed to cultivate spaces of equitable cohabitation through the power of storytelling and the excavation of intersectional identities. By championing Hip-Hop's culturally recognized valuesโ€“ peace, love, unity, and having funโ€“ we have developed integrative workshops and curated events that value accessibility, exploration, and call-and-response dialogic forums.

Our most recently developed workshop, "BODY CONVO," encourages identity exploration and expression through practices that engage improvisational movement prompts, reflexive writing, and the dance cypher as a safe space for discourse and knowledge generation. The mission of "BODY CONVO" is to highlight the communal aspect of dance as a form of storytelling through carefully designed, practice-as-research tasks. The workshop examines storytelling through five sequential entry points: individuality, musicality, communication, observation, and call-and-response.

LEVEL: Beginner. Any and all experiences/levels welcome!

from $0.00

DESCRIPTION: Move towards your well-being. Move towards your communityโ€™s well-being. We are living through challenging times, but what if caring for your body could also mean caring for the community around you? In the spirit of Ayni (reciprocity), join me for this series of Feldenkraisยฎ Awareness Through Movement classes; 75% of proceeds (after paying for the space) go directly to Puentes de Salud, an incredible South Philly organization providing vital healthcare and support to our immigrant neighbors.

What is this class like? Think of this practice as a "reset" for your nervous system. By moving slowly and mindfully, you transform chronic tension and discomfort into movement that works in harmony with your whole body. Itโ€™s a gentle practice focused on ease, leaving you feeling centered, clear, and deeply refreshed. The session will conclude with space to share your experience, followed by an invitation to dance together. Letโ€™s cultivate our interconnectedness and help one another stay healthy and resilient.

Open to All: This practice is as beneficial for those looking for beginner class as it is for performing artists seeking to refine their craft.

Preparation: You are encouraged to wear warm comfortable clothes that facilitate movement and bring a mat or blanket.

Format: Class consists of verbally guided instruction (bilingual English/Espaรฑol). Movements are performed while lying on a mat, sitting, or standing to ensure comfort and accessibility.

Sydney Donovan- Up, Down, and Around Class #8

Sydney Donovan- Up, Down, and Around Wednesdays 10-11:30AM, January-February 2026
from $0.00

DESCRIPTION: Ballet/ floorwork/ sensation

This class weaves together the precision of ballet, the fluidity of contemporary floor work, and the intuitive world of sensation-based movement. We begin with a warm, gooey ballet phrase sequence that follows the familiar rhythm and structure of a traditional ballet class, gradually building into traveling work that expands the body through space. Moving downward, we shift into contemporary floor work, exploring weight, momentum, and the bodyโ€™s relationship with gravity. As the heart rate rises, students are guided into a Reiki-infused movement meditation: an energetic reset that blends grounding intention with physical activation. We play with texture, somatics, groove, and the pleasure of sensation. Class concludes with phrase work exploration, allowing dancers to integrate technique, intuition, and personal artistry into a final embodied expression.

We will get in touch with our inner mechanics to discover how our own bodies move with/in the offered movement.

My practice draws on Kline Technique, Safety Release Technique, and release techniques. Frank Leasing- Unturning the Earth: somatic study of the objects of history and the nature of return
from $0.00

Thursday 2/5
7-8:30PM @ & Space
1021 Hamilton Street, Floor 3

DESCRIPTION: The past is all around us, and unsettled beneath us. Things are buried, things are exhumed. They are brought out of the ground, recast as artifacts, then as relics. Under the bright light of hegemony, they are pieced together, imagined whole, in service to empireโ€™s writing of history. Can place be returned to? Would returning to a place mean unturning time? Unturning the soil? Upheaving what is buried? To what end? In this class, we will experience these questions in space, and attend to their phenomena. Using guided imagery, outside texts, and attentional practices, we will explore our senses as agents of research, encounter, meaning-making and unmaking.

Open to all, especially those without dance/movement background!

Release Practice with Katherine Kiefer Stark Class #5

Release Practice with Katherine Kiefer Stark- Tuesdays 7-8:30PM, January + February 2026
from $0.00

DESCRIPTION: In this playful practice, we dance in relationship with each other and the room, through athletic phrases that move in and out of the floor and carry us in and out of balance. We will get in touch with our inner mechanics to discover how our own bodies move with/in the offered movement.

My practice draws on Kline Technique, Safety Release Technique, and release techniques. This blend allows us to move with and throughmomentum, spirals, and circlesto arrive at predetermined and surprising destinations. I hope you leave with a satisfying, sweaty, just having played a good game, endorphin high.

Sydney Donovan- Up, Down, and Around Class #4

DESCRIPTION: When I was a kid, one of my favorite dance teachers would beg me not to โ€œdiva outโ€. But I love divas so this class will be an opportunity to embody just that, releasing our inner FIERCE hunny! Weโ€™ll gather for a full body warm up including the front and back of our minds, pulling from my MOUTH ROT practice and before class ends weโ€™ll learn a jazz-ish, contemporary-esque, Vogue inspired routine choreographed in collaboration with Ina Kwayana.

Expect to:
End up Queer(er)
Do some jazz progressions + optional partnering
Giggle yourself
Get sickening. But not sick! But to gag from the diva of it all- as we begin the new year together.
