Release Practice with Katherine Kiefer Stark Class #1
DESCRIPTION: In this playful practice, we dance in relationship with each other and the room, through athletic phrases that move in and out of the floor and carry us in and out of balance. We will get in touch with our inner mechanics to discover how our own bodies move with/in the offered movement.
My practice draws on Kline Technique, Safety Release Technique, and release techniques. This blend allows us to move with and throughmomentum, spirals, and circlesto arrive at predetermined and surprising destinations. I hope you leave with a satisfying, sweaty, just having played a good game, endorphin high.

Sydney Donovan- Up, Down, and Around Class #1
DESCRIPTION: Ballet/ floorwork/ sensation
This class weaves together the precision of ballet, the fluidity of contemporary floor work, and the intuitive world of sensation-based movement. We begin with a warm, gooey ballet phrase sequence that follows the familiar rhythm and structure of a traditional ballet class, gradually building into traveling work that expands the body through space. Moving downward, we shift into contemporary floor work, exploring weight, momentum, and the body’s relationship with gravity. As the heart rate rises, students are guided into a Reiki-infused movement meditation: an energetic reset that blends grounding intention with physical activation. Drawing inspiration from Gaga technique, we play with texture, somatics, groove, and the pleasure of sensation. Class concludes with phrase work exploration, allowing dancers to integrate technique, intuition, and personal artistry into a final embodied expression.

Chloe Marie- The Rhythm Inside
Thursday 12/18
7-8:30PM @ CHI Movement Arts Center
1316 S. 9th Street
DESCRIPTION: This class is inspired by my love for house dance and the ways my tap upbringing has shaped how I hear, feel, and interpret house vocabulary. Tap has made me a house dancer who is deeply attuned to rhythm—both the obvious beats and the subtle, often unnoticed ones.
In this class, I aim to guide individuals through expanding their listening skills: hearing layered rhythms, zooming in on specific textures, and creating percussive sounds with their bodies that become as essential to the dance as the music itself. Together, we will explore how rhythm lives within us, how sound can be embodied, and how movement can generate its own music. We will also experiment with live sound-making using my drum machine to deepen our play with rhythm and musicality.
Join me in discovering the rhythms we hear, the rhythms we create, and the rhythms we become.

Xander: What’s dancing anyways? Class #6
DESCRIPTION: Here’s the class format:
Time to arrive. Five-ish minutes SHAKE. One s l o w (even slower) walk across the room. Non-stopping practice. Open score. (subject to change! it’s improvisation)
Each week, I will introduce questions, concepts, and/or conflicts to guide our attention and train our choreographic minds. I’m pulling together improvisational, task-ish, practices I’ve learned and gathered in the past years. Ones that have re-shaped me enough that I kept doing them on my own after the class/workshop/intensive was over. Namely, I draw from Jared Williams and Anya Smolnikova’s shake format, Ryuta Iwashita and Jeanine Durning's stream of conscious type practices, Heidi Henderson’s slow walking, and Julianna May’s Choreographic Idioms class.
This is a laboratory where we embrace not-knowing-what’s-going-to-happen. We aim toward trusting the velocity of our minds and allowing the impulses of our bodies. Let’s be wrong and bad and dance.?
LEVEL: Intermediate- some skill in improvisation and durational practice will be incredibly supportive to this class, whether in dance, theatre, music or a different creative discipline.

Xander: What’s dancing anyways? Class #5
PAYMENT: Classes are pay-what-you-can, $15-$20 suggested!

DESCRIPTION: Spiral Body Techniques® (SBT) class with Harlee invites dancers into an exploration of flow, grounding, and expressive range. Together we will access the mobility of the trunk and torso, explore the complex intelligence of the ball-and-socket joints, and cultivate embodied and spatial awareness that supports both the pursuit of excellence and the prevention of injury or unnecessary strain.
Spiral Body Techniques® (SBT) is the framework for dance and teaching movement developed by choreographer Molly Shanahan. Harlee has been an advanced student of Spiral Body Techniques® since 2016, and is part of the inaugural cohort of certified instructors (2023).
