Snack Break Movement Arts- BODY CONVO
Thursday 3/5
7-8:30PM @ & Space
1021 Hamilton Street, Floor 3
DESCRIPTION: Since Snack Break Movement Art's inception, we have aimed to cultivate spaces of equitable cohabitation through the power of storytelling and the excavation of intersectional identities. By championing Hip-Hop's culturally recognized valuesโ peace, love, unity, and having funโ we have developed integrative workshops and curated events that value accessibility, exploration, and call-and-response dialogic forums.
Our most recently developed workshop, "BODY CONVO," encourages identity exploration and expression through practices that engage improvisational movement prompts, reflexive writing, and the dance cypher as a safe space for discourse and knowledge generation. The mission of "BODY CONVO" is to highlight the communal aspect of dance as a form of storytelling through carefully designed, practice-as-research tasks. The workshop examines storytelling through five sequential entry points: individuality, musicality, communication, observation, and call-and-response.
LEVEL: Beginner. Any and all experiences/levels welcome!
MASKING: Mask optional.

GC Harper- The Upside Down
Thursday 3/26
7-8:30PM @ & Space

Vertical? Partially or fully it effects the opportunities we have in movement. This is primarily a floorwork and inversions class, exploring the horizontal and upside down.
Class will begin with a strengthening warm up, offering tools on how to safely navigate bearing weight on the hands and arms. We will then transition into workshopping entrances, exits and transitions from one movement to another. The end of class will be a combination that encapsulates everything we learned that day perhaps some improv as well!
ADDITIONAL INFO: Knee pads will be helpful, modifications will always be given when asked!

Sydney Donovan- Up, Down, and Around Class #8
DESCRIPTION: Ballet/ floorwork/ sensation
This class weaves together the precision of ballet, the fluidity of contemporary floor work, and the intuitive world of sensation-based movement. We begin with a warm, gooey ballet phrase sequence that follows the familiar rhythm and structure of a traditional ballet class, gradually building into traveling work that expands the body through space. Moving downward, we shift into contemporary floor work, exploring weight, momentum, and the bodyโs relationship with gravity. As the heart rate rises, students are guided into a Reiki-infused movement meditation: an energetic reset that blends grounding intention with physical activation. We play with texture, somatics, groove, and the pleasure of sensation. Class concludes with phrase work exploration, allowing dancers to integrate technique, intuition, and personal artistry into a final embodied expression.

Frank Leasing- Unturning the Earth: somatic study of the objects of history and the nature of return
Thursday 2/5
7-8:30PM @ & Space
1021 Hamilton Street, Floor 3
DESCRIPTION: The past is all around us, and unsettled beneath us. Things are buried, things are exhumed. They are brought out of the ground, recast as artifacts, then as relics. Under the bright light of hegemony, they are pieced together, imagined whole, in service to empireโs writing of history. Can place be returned to? Would returning to a place mean unturning time? Unturning the soil? Upheaving what is buried? To what end? In this class, we will experience these questions in space, and attend to their phenomena. Using guided imagery, outside texts, and attentional practices, we will explore our senses as agents of research, encounter, meaning-making and unmaking.
Open to all, especially those without dance/movement background!
