Lu Donovan: drone tones - repetition, relief, release- Thursdays 7-8:30PM, May + June 2025

DESCRIPTION: the lowest hum. a buzz. going on and on and on and on and on. the part that holds a song together such that trilling frequencies may layer and flit atop. also a type of bee. a device of state surveillance. an annoying person.

each class in this series will dive into a different angle of droning research. themes include: a deep listening dance party, the anatomy of the ear, the physics of sound waves, the buoyancy of the hyoid bone, the bagpipe, resistance songs, tuning our bodies (as if we were to play a concerto)... and more. we’ll use both improvisation and set movement phrases to enter into long-form repetition scores, repeating repeating and repeating until the repetition itself tells us what to next layer onto ourselves and with each other.

NOTE: Masks required + provided at the door (kn95 or higher)

LEVEL: all levels with openness to choreography (with modification options, both of the steps and of the learning process). if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email lu at ludonovan8@gmail.com.

PAYMENT: Classes are pay-what-you-can, $15-$20 suggested!
