from $0.00

Thursday 9/18/2025
7-8:30PM @ CHI Movement Arts Center
1316 S. 9th Street

DESCRIPTION: I’m the love of your life is a contemporary technique dance class exploring the momentum that comes with loving and falling in love with yourself. Through this practice, we seek to somatically understand how the phrase “I am the love of your life” can be turned inward and become a tool in interrogating, observing, and unraveling the oppressive systems we’ve learned and continually perpetuate. Through personal reflection, we will individually use this somatic experience to understand both the questions as well as the ease of experiencing this kind of self love.

In this class we will begin with floorwork, explore and define momentum with a loose movement phrase and create solo phrases defining this feeling.

Masks encouraged.

DESCRIPTION: we'll be moving in and out of contact with ourselves, the floor and each other while moving/thinking/processing the concepts and bodily responses to dying. this class will focus on the concepts of roadkill, rigor mortis, and resurrection by means of guided improvisation, abstraction, connection and phrase material. together, we'll aim to hold the heaviness, lightness, the unknown, excitement, fear, and the play inside of living while dying.

LEVEL: while any experience level will be able to engage with the improvisational and conversational aspects of class, the phrase material will likely be most comfortable for intermediate level movers with experience in learning set material. however, anyone with an open mind and willingness to try should come anyway, we can talk about ways to engage with set material from different experience levels in the moment.

Leaving things unfinished

Inspired by our residency time together, I offer this question: what am I trying to capture when I’m making a dance? For this session, we will spend time generating material from scratch, iterating on it, and then turning our focus towards the environment we’re working in. Rather than pinning down the dance we’re busy making, we’ll incorporate lighting, space, and playful naughtyness to provoke movement compositions that are layered responses to what we navigate more broadly. I see this session in relief to the pace of Fringe season; an invitation to go somewhere else from here.

Meeting point

I would like to invite you for a movement workshop which is inspired by the time I spent in Philadelphia. As a Hungarian artist, I'm curious what arises to me, how can I channel it to my mody and how can I channel back for the people. I'm curious how we can meet in the universal language of movement and awareness to each other and to space.

Moved by Questions

This improvisational contemporary dance workshop invites participants to let questions be the motor of their dance. Instead of following instructions, we’ll generate questions—opening doors to new sensations, perspectives, and possibilities of movement. We’ll explore different kinds of questions: those about sensation, quality of movement, and mapping of the body as if we were inhabiting it for the very first time. Questions don’t necessarily ask for solid answers—they serve as tools for opening space for exploration and curiosity.

Inspired by the choreographic practices of Berlin-based Anna Nowicka and Sweden-based Israel Aloni.

Saturday 9/6/2025
1-2:30PM @ CHI Movement Arts Center

DESCRIPTION: What do you need to feel present, available, and prepared to perform in front of an audience?

In this workshop I will share some grounding techniques and tools for mental and physical preparation for performance, drawing from my own experiences as a dancer. Any performer who uses their body on stage will be able to benefit from these tools!

In addition to me sharing some practices that I personally enjoy and find effective, we will work together and in small groups to devise exercises that will help prepare you for the demands of a specific performance you may have coming up… (and if you don’t have a performance coming up, you could think of one you’ve done in the past!)

Together let's explore, in a supportive and collaborative environment, how it feels to be prepared and available for performance-- and how to consistently access that physical and mental state.

mikah simone/bd- I’m the love of your life (June)
from $0.00

Saturday June 28th, 2025
1-2:30PM @ CHI Movement Arts Center
